Mr. Thurman Roberson, AA5AF, has accepted the position of Assistant Section Emergency Coordinator (ASEC) Digital for the South Texas Section.
Mr. Roberson has been licensed as a radio operator since 1999.
“Robby” as he prefers to be called, tells his story: “I have used many modes of operations in the digital world, including RTTY, AMTOR, GTOR, CLOVER, and PACTOR.” “I operate a 24/7 RMS gateway station for SHARES.” “I operate a 24/7 BPQ32 VARA HF station for Amateur use.” “I operate a DMR repeater system, which is down for repairs at the moment.”
“I am a retired Agent from the Department of Public Safety with over 33 1/2 years of faithful service.” “I am also retired from the U S Air Force after 25 years.” “I have worked with digital communications for over 20 years, going back in the early days of packet BBS’s.” “As technology moved forward, everyone was using PACTOR, CLOVER, and GTOR. My system was integrated to keep up with technology.”
Equipment: “For voice equipment during nets, I am talking on a Flex Radio 6700 with an Alpha 9500 amplifier using a dipole for 40/80 meters and a Log Periodic for the higher bands.”
Skills: “I am eager to perform this position to the best of my abilities.” “I have done a lot of research in the digital field to stay ahead of the game in case emergency communications are needed.”
Robby lives in Seguin.
