We Need Help

ARRLSTX has over 1,700 members, but our dev team has only 2 people. We are putting out a call to action. If we could get just 1% of our member base to volunteer to help, we would an amazing website and community.
We do not need serious time commitments, 1 hour per month could give so much! We have a wide variety of positions that could be filled. It is just a heavy load to carry without the help. We can provide any training you might need.

If you can offer a few minutes per month we would love to bring you on board! you can send a notice to the team easily by using the purple at the bottom of this post, just tell us how much time you can us and what area you think you would be interested in. It’s the simplest application ever! Prefer to type and tell a little more? Send an email to kg5ebi@arrl.net. Or you can just comment on this page. No matter how you do it the message will get through to the team.
Did you enjoy this?
Please log in to volunteer.

On the FCC database Robert M lee came up as AA5AF that’s my call sign not his you might want to check your database again
Robby AA5AF
The FCC DB link is showing the wrong information for me on the website. Regards Michael Invergo, W5MWI
All fixed a few minutes ago, manually. You should be good now. Currently checking if the FCC has fixed any others yet to compare. Sorry for the frustration.
Robby, I am sorry about that affecting your first experience with the website. The error was manually adjusted in the database 7 minutes ago. In our testing we found 5 bugs that were similar, of those 1 was ours.
The FCC told me that with 1.8M records they have a small error rate daily and the next day when the database updates most are resolved, but then a different group or section might have an error. Basically they described it as a small portion of the database being corrupted and told me just to wait till tomorrow haha.
Hi Jae,
At your convenience – and my comments/requests are ALWAYS at your convenience – could you let me know how to contact the FCC about a minor glitch in my call sign? It says it is a club call sign; and while I am still the trustee for the club call sign; MY call sign is MINE! not the club’s. Just give me a ping to let me know what I can do; so you don’t have to. Thanks!
Dallas said 800-Call-FCC. But I have had the best experience with 877-480-3201. I have only been placed on hold once and it less than 90 seconds, and the staff are SUPER friendly and chatty. I would not be ok with other using my call, so I feel ya.
Jim,
Dallas N4DDM jumping in… I’m not following your question… When I look at the official FCC database, I see your call KA7SSR listed as your PRIMARY station and WA5AR as a CLUB station… Both show your name and address… I see the same when I check QRZ…
Are you getting confused by QRZ showing your name and call as the trustee and showing your call?

Hi Dallas,
Rather than repeat myself, I’ll just say look at what I wrote to Stuart below. Again, I think what I’m seeing is related to the Data base being a new item. Like all new apps and APIs, this will take some time and refinement to work out the wrinkles. I don’t want to call them ‘bugs;’ that implies some real issues. Here – they’re just a bit confusing at first.
But it’s a great improvement; and if what I see is any evidence of the talent; we’ve got an interesting and VERY positive future ahead of us!
Hello James,
When you look up your call using the FCC Call sign Lookup site it says your call is for an individual, and the club call sign is for a club with you as a trustee.
Can you send me a link to where it is showing your call as a club call?
I think it’s a glitch in the STX link to the Data base. When I look at it; EVERYONE shows as a Club/Organization. Obviously NOT the case. But, let’s be honest – all apps take time to get it perfect – I know; that’s how I earn my living; helping people with their use of apps – about 85 per cent of the time it’s a PICNIC issue – y’know Problem In Chair, Not In Computer! But 15 per cent of the time there’s an issue with the app; especially if it’s new and maybe only on release 1.1 up to 1.5. Nothing seems to get released without bugs – and even if they did; many of them would FIND the bugs, especially when they have to interact with other apps.
TL:DR – I don’t think it’s a problem with FCC; I think it’s the way the data base is working – right now. It will get better! Don’t pick on the Dev Team; feed him cookies instead!
Hi Jae;
On a different topic; how does one become a ‘contributor.’ As in writing some articles, etc. Who is the benevolent (or tyrannical, depending upon whether it is accepted or rejected, and for what reasons!!) editor of the article submission process?
Love the web site; very nice improvement(s).
The system is based 100% on merit only. No humans controlling other humans – too many personality conflict risks, power hungry control freaks, bad actors and other concerns. When the system is based on user track history, the computer will promote user rights. The more active a user is, the more points they earn and the faster the user progresses. Here is an article explaining the ARRLSTX Merit System titled Path to Staff.
Caveat & Exception: Over the first 45 days of the website launch we will be accepting a few volunteer positions to help fill the gap as we await users to build points.
Something for the future – so put it in the back of the Kan Ban board for now: A way to ‘publish’ the ARES Net report afterwards. It’d be a nice thing to have; and perhaps to keep a record of past Net participation for a variety of reasons. Right now, Jeff (or his designated representative) emails it to the various participants; but here it’d be available mucho quicko. Less bandwidth to get the word out – and it might also encourage more participation. Hmmm . . . .
Are you talking the report that Jeff publishes on the Groups.io? He is super regular I agree we should replicate and keep an archive of those for sure. Searchable, filterable and printable. If we databasize it (my new word – forget the spellcheck!) we can have fancy charts and graphs to visualize the stats as reports. Good call Jim! Thank you. We need to add a suggestion box for sure!
“Are you talking the report that Jeff publishes on the Groups.io? He is super regular I agree we should replicate and keep an archive of those for sure.”
It very well could be. I’ll be honest; I find Groups.io a bit kludgy for my tastes. I’m not impressed by the indexing and search function, TBH. But as that seems to be the default archive for most documents in the section (and for RACES, but that’s a story for a different time), it probably is found there. I just know he emails a copy out (or maybe it comes from the groups.io global post function?!).
I know. I am very confident that we will have a large portion of the group that wants to use the website and the other portion will demand Groups.io. There will be very few users that engage on both platforms, people have preferences. It is the the job of the ARRLSTX dev team to bridge the communities and keep them in sync.
