Llano County and Burnet County are combined into one operating ARES unit. This is due to the relatively small ham population in the two counties and the coverage by one club, the Highland Lakes Amateur Radio Club, and the common county boundry, Lake Buchanan. We have MOU agreements with seven served agencies in the two counties. In addition, we have trained hams in many of the served agencies through our "Ham-Slam" training classes. We have a net on Sunday nights at 2030 hour local time on 146.660 mHz (88.5 Hz). Please check in.
We are the only ARES unit I know that has both a navy and airforce.
Llano County has a population estimated at 18,400 and covers a land area of 935 square miles. The ham population is estimated at 83 people. There are 14 trained ARES members who also support the community through SkyWarn activities. The EC is KA5GIL. Please see http://www.hlarc.org/ares.html for more information. 73, |
